Dr. Alexander Glew, President

Alexander Glew, Engineering Litigation ExpertDr. Alexander Glew has more than 20 years experience in the semiconductor and other industries. He founded Glew Engineering Consulting more than a dozen years ago. His practice at Glew Engineering Consulting has included project turn-around, product design, semiconductor device analysis, semiconductor equipment design and analysis, laboratory analysis, IC tear downs, and market studies.

As his practice grew to more than his own efforts, he has brought in a hand selected team of truly exceptional engineers.

Semiconductor Equipment Expert

Dr. Glew began his career with a decade at Applied Materials in various engineering and technology positions. His roles included product development, project management, engineering management, and supplier quality management. He was also a core technologist, one of 15 in the company, in the area of ultra high purity chemical systems, gas panels, and fluid delivery.

While at AMAT, Dr. Glew worked on the development of the landmark Precision 5000, now in the Smithsonian Institute. Later, he started the customer engineering specials (CES) department of the CVD division, and gained extensive design experience with many aspects of semiconductor equipment; his design skills were tempered by the persistent schedules of semiconductor equipment.  He designed numerous state of the art gas panels and fluid systems which went into production.  Further, he managed the design and drafting group as well as experience in many design projects during his time there. He even managed a supplier quality engineering group and SEMATECH projects before returning to Stanford University.

Materials Science Experience

Dr. Glew holds the Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in Materials Science and Engineering from Stanford University, and the B.S. and M.S. degrees in mechanical engineering from UC Berkeley. His dissertation was in plasma chemical vapor deposition (CVD) of diamond like carbon (DLC), fluorinated carbon (FLAC), both low k dielectrics.

Mechanical Engineering Experience

Dr. Glew is a licensed professional engineer (P.E.) in California, in the mechanical engineering branch. He practices both mechanical engineering and materials science engineering.  He also performs fiinite element analysis (FEA) using Autodesk Algor Simulation and Inventor.

Expert Witness

Dr. Glew is experienced in providing IP litigation support, including patents, trade secrets, and economic espionage.  He has also testified in large scale industrial accidents, technology contracts, and arbitration. He has testified before the Federal District Court, Tokyo High Court, International Trade Commission, and in International Arbitration.  His testimony has contributed to findings of patent infringement, patent invalidity, inequitable conduct, and responsibility for significant damages.

Patents

He holds three patents, one of which he prosecuted, in the fields of tungsten, chemical vapor deposition, and ultra high purity and high temperature valving.

Martha V. Glew, V.P. of Business Development

Martha Glew, Telecom Engineering ExpertMs. Glew, Vice President of Business Development at Glew Engineering Consulting, has over 2 decades of experience as a key account manager and director for high technology product sales.  She has worked in the semiconductor, telecom, fiber optic, metrology and control industries, managing her companies most important clients and the necessary support people.  She has worked at JDSU, Hitachi Cable, Applied Materials, Steag, AG Associates, Tylan General, Unit Instruments, and Vaisala.
She can help you identify which consultant will best suit your needs.

Semiconductor Industry Experience

At the system level, she has sold capital equipment (CAPEX) to semiconductor FABS, such as  rapid thermal processing (RTP) and chemical vapor deposition (CVD) equipment for AG Associates, STEAG and Applied Materials.  At the subsystem and component level, she has sold mass flow controllers (MFCs), manometers, gas panels, and related components for Vaisala, Unit Instruments, and Tylan General.  She has also sold micro-machined products. On behalf of her companies, has engaged with many of the largest semiconductor FABS.

Telecom and Datacom Experience

She has sold fiber optical components, fiber optic transceivers, fiber optic transponders, planar wave guides, reconfigurable add drop multiplexers (RODEMS), to some of the largest telecommunications and datacommunications customers, including Alcatel and Cisco Systems on behalf of Hitachi Cable and JDSU.

Education

Ms. Glew has a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY.

Dr. Maxat Touzelbaev, Chief Technical Officer

Maxat TouzelbaevDr. Maxat Touzelbaev has over 10 years experience in thermal design optimization and characterization. He has worked as a packaging engineer primarily in the semiconductor industry. He has strong analytic and management skills in the areas of thermal packaging and power cycling. He is a visiting researcher and graduate student co-advisor for the Mechanical Engineering department at Stanford University. His language skills include fluency in English and Russian.

Thermal and Power Management Experience

Dr. Touzelbaev helped pioneer the use of indium in IC thermal management. He has worked on real time device temperature predictions and estimates. He continues to actively develop technology in this area.

Semiconductor Packaging Experience

He has managed the thermal and electrical packaging characterization efforts at a major CPU manufacturer. His work included quality assurance (QA) of semiconductor packages using time domain reflection (TDR) characterization techniques in concert with thermal impedance modeling. Power delivery and removal via semiconductor packages to the silicon and substrates continue to present significant challenges to the IC, MEMS, LED and related industries.

Thermal Metrology Experience

He has designed back-end temperature controllers for characterization for devices under test (DUT). Tens of thousands of installed units that he designed continue to be used in device manufacturing. He also pioneered the use of frequency domain thermal characterization techniques to supplement existing time domain techniques for improved accuracy.

Micro/Nano Scale Transport Experience

Dr. Touzelbaev has extensive theoretical and experimental background in sub-continuum energy transport, relevant for at least thin films and nanostructures. During his dissertation at Stanford, he studied thermal transport in thin diamond and diamond-like films as well as confinement structures, such as super lattices.

Patents

Dr. Touzelbaev has five patents issued in the field of semiconductor packaging and seven patents currently pending.

Publications

Dr. Touzelbaev currently has 24 technical publications and a book chapter.

Education

Dr. Touzelbaev holds a Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University, He received his M.S in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Arkansas.
